My kids. They speed up time. It was only yesterday that Bryan was born, and now he's 16 years old!

Also, they make me feel much older than I really am. So, they speed up time for me, too.

July is national ice cream month! What's your favorite flavor?

Mint chocolate chip! Delsa's Ice Cream Shop in Boise gave me my first taste. That was 'way back in 1970! And everytime after that I had to have mint chocolate chip. But that was green ice cream...now I know better and only want Breyer's--all natural for me!

QotD: Family History

What do you find interesting or unique about your family history?

First of all, we adopted this gorgeous little girl...that is a very special part of our family history.

Secondly, something that I've always found interesting is that our family has a tale to tell about the New Madrid quakes of December, 1811, through February, 1812. (the map to the left shows the recent quake, which happened in April of this year.)

A great-great ancestor of my family was traveling with a wagon train from east Tennessee to points west. When the wagon train got to central Tennessee, near the Lebanon area, one of my family members became ill. My family dropped out of the train and the others carried on, to end up in the Reelfoot Lake area. The quakes hit, and Reelfoot Lake was a central part of that disaster. My family never heard from those folks again, leading my ancestors to assume they had died in the quakes.

So glad that someone got sick!

What's the hardest part about the role you play in your family?

It is always so dog-goned constant. Homeschooling means being with the kids a lot. Sometimes, that familiarity breeds contempt on all our parts.
